Rinteln
The old fortress and university town of Rinteln celebrated its 750th anniversary in 1989. Many picturesque half-timbered houses in the historic city centre are over 400 years old. Particularly worth seeing are the old courtyards, the Nikolai Church, and the monastery church of St Jakobi, which used to be the university church. The Eulenburg local history museum is located next to the town hall. Surrounding the town are ramparts and parts of the old town wall. Many restaurants and cafés as well as the market square invite you to linger.
